A First-Time Champion Awaits in Brewers-Rays World Series
There will be a first-time World Series champion to conclude the 2026 MLB season, with a pair of zero-time winners colliding in the Fall Classic between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.
With an efficient lineup that gave the team enough offense on a near nightly basis, and one of the league’s best pitching staffs led by a dominant starter in Jacob Misiorowski, the Brewers enjoyed one of their best regular seasons in franchise history. With 103 wins, they won the NL Central going away, 14 games up on the second-place Chicago Cubs, and were one of two teams to hit 100 wins.
Milwaukee's dominance has carried over into October. A 3-1 series win over the San Diego Padres was followed by one of the most impressive NLCS performances in recent memory. Not only did the Brewers end the Dodgers' three-peat quest, but they swept the high-priced Hollywood outfit. Most worryingly for the Rays is the fact that Misiorowski is yet to have the type of dominant start he so routinely enjoyed throughout the season.
Unsurprisingly, baseball’s best team wire-to-wire this year will enter the World Series as -170 favourites to win it all, with Tampa Bay coming back as +145 underdogs.
To the Rays' credit, they're hardly a stunning AL champion. With 98 wins, they were the best team in the American League this season, and won an always-competitive AL East by five games. Like the Brew Crew, Tampa Bay has strung together an impressive October, too.
A cathartic three-game sweep over the New York Yankees in the ALDS was followed by a six-game series win over a Cleveland Guardians team that gritted their way through their own ALDS.
Encouragingly for the underdog, while Milwaukee awaits a Misiorowski gem, Tampa Bay has received the best out of Freddy Peralta. The former Brewer won ALCS MVP after a trio of highlight appearances against Cleveland, and will be a key figure if the Rays are able to upset the Brewers and win their first World Series.
With first pitch on Friday, we won’t need to wait long to find out which team will be crowned as World Series champions for the first time.
